How do I drop off my child at the beginning of school?
Do not drop off students before 7:30 a.m. Students in third through fifth grades may be dropped off on Thora Boulevard, and students in kindergarten through second grades need to be dropped off in the carpool line/bus loop. Peer helpers will be in the bus loop to help students unload. Please do not drop children off on Erie Street or in the driveway by the library.

What should I do if my child is going to be late to school?
Your child will be considered tardy if he/she is not in their classroom at 7:50 a.m. You will need to accompany your child into the South Highlands office to be checked-in as tardy and pick up your child’s attendance card. Any child who walks to his/her classroom without checking in with a parent in the office will be marked as an unexcused tardy.

How do I pick up my child at the end of the school day?
Have your car tag visible and enter the carpool line from Thora Boulevard and pull to the last spot available and alternate cars from each direction. Make sure you do not block traffic at any time and give preference to buses. Keep a lane of traffic open for emergency vehicles and neighborhood traffic. Children in third through fifth grades may sit on the sidewalk on Thora to be picked up, but this is not allowed for younger siblings.

If I want my child dismissed early, what should I do, and who do I contact?
Write a note to the teacher including the student’s name, reason for dismissal, time of dismissal and signature of parent. If someone other than a parent is going to pick up your child, please include that information in your note. A parent/guardian must report to the office to pick up the child. No children should be checked out after 2:30 p.m. Please do not send a note requesting a child to be in the office at a certain time to be checked out. Your child will be called when you arrive.

If I want my child to ride a different bus or carpool home, what should I do?
A note must be sent to the school office explaining the change in departure. A bus pass must be issued from the school office if your child will be riding a different bus home. Note: This procedure is to be used in both long-term situations (such as riding to a grandparent’s house each day) and short-term situations (such as going to a friend’s house one afternoon).

I will be driving my child to school, what time should I arrive?
Walking and car pool students should arrive at school between 7:30 and 7:50 a.m. There is no supervision for children before 7:30 a.m. unless they go to breakfast in the cafeteria. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m.
